Its been a good month here, I've been awarded a 2011 Strauss Fellowship from the Arts Council of Fairfax. I am also currently a semifinalist for the 2011 Bethesda Painting Awards, wish me luck!

This is the last week for you to catch "Like Nowhere I've Been: Landscapes de un Sueno" at Evolve Urban Arts Project.

And of course Saturday, April 23 is the first public performance of "Ghost Music", a collaboration with composer Matt Sargent and percussionist Bill Solomon.

Ghost Music Performance

This will be the first public performance of all aspects of Ghost Music, my collaboration with composer Matt Sargent and Percussionist Bill Solomon. You can read a great article about Matt's vision for the piece in the Hartford Advocate.

Watch Me Make a Drawing: April 2, 2011

I will create a new site-specific drawing at the Adam Lister Gallery on Saturday, April 2 from 10-4 pm as part of the "Paint the City: Fairfax, VA" event (which will include many artists working on location in the streets of Fairfax City through out the day) . U-Street Sidewalk Serves as a Stage for Interactive Performance Art

Washington, DC – February 8, 2011 – The Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery announces the final performance of John M. Adam’s Efflux, on Tuesday, February 15, beginning at 6pm on the gallery sidewalk.

Since mid January the gallery has hosted

John M. Adams’ site-specific drawing/video installation as part of its IN-FLUX window peek-show series, and on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Adams’ will culminate the work’s lifecycle with its final performance and destruction.

Adams' work straddles the domains of performance and installation art; his drawings are designed and created specific for their space, and immediately destroyed at the close of the exhibition. The feathery line-quality of Efflux’s graphite drawing evokes plumes of smoke, equally transitory and in keeping with the larger work's momentary existence. Alongside the installation's gestural work, a TV monitor loops footage of Adams creating the piece itself. And on February 15 the piece will be destroyed in a public performance, offering a complete metaphor for evolution - moving the viewer through creation, existence and destruction. Unlike Efflux’s creation, for the final performance Adams will relinquish his role as the works’ active participant and provoke pedestrians to walk on his work, thereby assuming active roles in the work’s anticipated end.
