I got some new images of the paintings from last year - and I figured I would post them. I am not labeling which is which, let me know what you think is better - I believe I have my opinion about this piece Obscured Vantage, oil and acrylic on birch, 48"x37"...

Oh, tough one. I think I know which is which, but I like Exhibit A better. Something about it seems more complete... but the highlights in B are nice too.
I give the edge to A over B for my tastes.
Ok, now look at the next comparison and let me know -thanks for the input.

But I can totally see what C is trying to accomplish. It feels more alive, textured and deep, but something about the look of A really draws me in.
Now, the real question is this... which would do better as a submission to a random jury? I might reverse the order for that purpose. C is definitely eye-catching, but it feels like too much to me.
Interesting, because A is one of the images that the jurors responded to as being flat and not representing what the actual artwork looked like. C is much more like the image i sent to you that you manipulated for me to try to get rid of the flatness. A is what is on my website and I get feedback from many people saying that the image is too flat and blurry, they can't get a sense of it...
Its all so subjective (and if you look at the digital files in photoshop, they are sooooo different than what you see in notepad - there is a huge difference in the amount of detail between A and B)
Yep, I hear you. I prefer the softer images but I imagine jurors and most other people will prefer the detailed/shiny images. I'd go with those for any submissions you do going forward.
thanks for the opinion bro, I do think the detailed images are better for the jurors, but neither is a substitute for the real work, you miss part of the painting in both, it is only a reproduction...
